A tour through the jewish heritage of Provence

Since the Antiquity an important and influent Jewish community settled in Provence, especially in its northern part known as the “Comtat Venaissin“, land of the Popes.

History left deep, complex, strong and sometime dramatic traces in our region. In addition to the visit of France’s OLDEST SYNAGOGUE  in Carpentras, a unique landmark, we customize this tour to your wishes with different options.

CARPENTRAS, one of the oldest synagogue in Europe, famous for its impressive mikve and its superb medieval section.

CAVAILLON, nowadays a museum is located in the former synagogue, at the entrance of the former ghetto.

PERNES-LES-FONTAINES, once home to one of the largest jewish community of Provence, it’s also a superb village known for its numerous fountains.

AIX-EN-PROVENCE with the Milles camp, former detention camp, last stage before the death camps in Germany or Poland. Today a fascinating museum and a site of memory.
