The Verdon canyon and the lavender fields
The Verdon, blue scare in the heart of the mountains of Provence, is the deepest canyon in Europe and leave a long-lasting impression on any visitor.
After driving in the countryside and the Pre-Alps with the Napoleon road, you will follow the canyon on its most picturesque bank. Numerous stops at balconies will offer spectacular picture ops.
Visit the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie famous for the local faience (fine tin-glazed pottery), and enjoy the charm of its waterfall and the numerous local shops. A lunch in a local restaurant with Provencal specialties is essential to benefit from the charm of the region.
In the afternoon, by-pass the Sainte-Croix lake to discover the Valensole plateau, main site of lavender production (mid-June until mid-July), and stop for a visit at a local producer of essential oil, far away from tourist factories.
Outside the flowering period visit Tourtour: “the village in the sky”!
